Meeting: September 2nd, 2004

Meeting started at 7:45 p.m.

Catherine summarized the minutes of the last meeting (May) and gave a brief financial report.

 

Larry commented on all the US Mint activity this summer.

Roy talked about his trip to Pennsylvania to receive his 25-year award from the American Numismatic Association, and also notified the club that he will be opening a coin shop in Eau Claire in October. He will have a “Bid Board” (like a private auction) for membership.  Pay a one-time fee and get a number, then put coins on the board for auction. There will be a once-a-week closing of bids.  Tuesday nights will be open late.  One night a month will be “kids night.”  Roy will be available to Scout Troops working on the Coin Collecting Merit Badge.

 

Old Business

ANA Membership

Larry:  Proposed that we renew our ANA membership ($29.00) and this was voted OK.

 

NOW Membership

Roy: Enquired about our membership of NOW (Numismatists of Wisconsin Inc.).  It seems to have lapsed. 

Catherine has received no paperwork to renew, but will check into it.

 

Club Shows

Doug: How did the profit from the Spring Show compare to previous years?

Catherine to check the files and report to next meeting.

 

Cabinet

John T and Charly arrived at the meeting with a cabinet for the Club supplies.  Charly will build shelves for it.  Thanks, guys!

Larry has purchased a lock for it. 

 

December meeting & Christmas Party

Bob: checked into Sweetwaters restaurant.  They have a room available for our required date, and meal selection.  Meal choices include; Top Sirloin Steak, Breaded or Broiled Shrimp, Stuffed Chicken Breast, & salad, rolls, milk/tea/coffee. $14.95 gratuity included.

Wayne proposed a motion to hold the Christmas Party at Sweetwaters Restaurant.

Seconded:  Bob       Vote passed.

Dec. 2nd 2004, gathering from 6:30 – 7:00 pm; 7:00 short meeting; then meal and auction.

Need to give an approximate headcount a few days ahead.

The restaurant is wheelchair accessible.

Larry to check meal price and give members an exact amount to pay, based on getting membership fee refunded.

New Members:

Welcome to the Dolan family. Phillip attended a presentation on coin collecting given by Roy at a Boy Scout Troop meeting.

The half year fee for joining mid-year is $5.00 for family, $3.00 for individual.

 

Upcoming Coin Shows:

September 12 – Roy’s show at Holiday Inn on Craig Road.

October 30 – Jerry Grade is having a show in Spooner at the Northwest Sports Center.

November 14 – Roy’s show.

 February 13 – Roy’s show.

April 10 – Club Show.

 

Club Roster

Bob:  suggests we remove street addresses from the published club roster.  If these sheets got into the wrong hands, it might encourage robberies.

Roy: explained that is why he only uses a box office number for his mailings.

Catherine:  will update the roster to remove mailing addresses.

 

Summer activities

After last meeting there was a discussion about the annual pizza party in May.  Perhaps the club could have a picnic in the summer, with potluck and cookout.

Roy: recommends the Rod & Gun park at Mt. Simon.  There is a $20 charge to book pavilions through Parks & Rec. dept.
